PhD in Education – Overview

The PhD in Education is a Doctor in Philosophy graduate major in Education. It is an advance academic course requiring 3 to 6 years post graduate studies. This program is specifically for professional practitioners in education including those either in public or private school, community or government agencies, professional associations and other related to the educational setting. This includes study and practice of educational and counseling research as well as study and application of theory and practice in the above mentioned fields. It is designed for individuals with a commitment to applying a multidisciplinary view of theory and research.

The degree program is designed for the professionals in education to enhance knowledge and skills useful in current or planned educational and counseling roles and to improve the ability to analyze current social, economic, political and ethical issues and concerns in their relationship to various education and community situations and activities.

PhD in Education – Entry Requirements

There are qualifications and requirements before one can be admitted in to the PhD in Education. These includes a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from accredited institutions, Transcript of records, letter of recommendation and a minimum of 3 years work experience in an educational, community or human services environment. Other institutions have their own sets of qualifications and requirements prior to admission of the student.

In some instances where in other institutions doesn’t offer a Masters degree in Education, they just provide a Master of Philosophy in Education instead. This is a more advanced study compare a Master’s degree. The MPhil is usually focused on doing original research and could be a possible prerequisite for a PhD study. Variations in the entry requirements vary from one institution to another depending on the policy and regulation set by the administration of the institution.

There are also specializations in taking up PhD in Education.
